We always watched the fireworks on the 4th too. My JW husband always goes with us.
When the 4th falls on a meeting night, there is a mad rush for everyone to get out of the KH in time to see the fireworks.
now my dad is trying to tell me going to watch the fireworks is celebrating it - the same as celebrating christmas... i told him that i don't care i'm going anyways and i'm taking hubby and daughter with me... he said in a not to happy tone, "ok".... i mean, what is he gonna do?
nope!
cause then he will get in trouble also and probably loose his elder status... .

okay, so i am guessing this has been posted in the past, but not recently.. after removing myself from the influence of the org, i wanted to do something different to symbolize drift.
i am thinking about donating blood.
the reason is not just symbolic, but i heard it can save up to like 25 lives.
I was going to celebrate my birthday last year by donating blood, but I wasn't eligible because I was taking a strong arthritis medication.
I'm not taking any meds this year so I'm going to make my first donation on my birthday.
there was a program on t v last night that went into the paganism beliefs and practises (including wicca, etc) i have to admit i do still feel uncomfortable with thier rites and religious practises (well i guess i feel the same way about christians talking in tongues - just not comfortable with gibberish) - doesn't make sense and borders on the weird for me.
i know it also stems from the unknown.. on the point of a goddess - that doesn't bother me because even though many picture god as male and showcase him as such, i am mindful of the scripture that says that spirit is neither male/female.. .
Male and female yes! In Wicca, there are two sides to deity as there is in everything, sun and moon, light and dark, Lord and Lady.
Loubelle, if you read about the reasoning behind the rites, you will find it's easy to understand.
First, do no harm, then do what you will.
The concept is simple, but the application takes some work.
There is much freedom in the practicie of Wicca, but two things are considered important, doing no harm and thankfulness to the Goddess and God as well as thankfulness in general.
Christianity has the Golden Rule, do unto others ect., Wicca takes it one step further, not only do no harm to others, but do nothing to harm yourself.
Wiccans also believe in the threefold law, whatever you do comes back to you threefold times. Do bad deeds and you will recieve them back multiplied. Do good and you will receive good back multiplied. Some people call this karma, but every religion has a version of this belief.
The celebrations and rituals follow the moon cycles and the seasons, people can worship in groups or be solitary practitioners.
Wicca and christianity are not opposites .I have a son in law who is both Wiccan and Catholic.
We have a pair of peach ring necked doves that are wonderful.
They are very tame and sound like they're laughing when they coo.
There are also smaller diamond doves that are gorgeous.
We also have a couple cockatiels- they are 14 years old now and still going strong.
my top ten or about that : ( not necessarily in order ).
jaws.

...outlaw.
I wanted it all too, especially Christmas and Halloween.
My father inherited all my grandparent's Christmas ornaments and my mother gave them all to a neighbor. There was one little bell ornament shaped like an angel that I managed to keep. A while later, my mother found it and broke it right in front of me. I was heartbroken.
kitten whiskers- yesssss, it was exactly like that for me too.
I always felt like I was outside, with my nose pressed to the glass, looking in at people who have normal lives.
six years - six years of this shit i've gone over and over, and i am officially done.
there are plenty of flame warriors out there to push people in the right direction.
barring that, common-sense will surely prevail for the rest.
Shamus- I'm sorry you're leaving. You add something unique to this board. But enjoy your break if you must go.
Cameo- I love your posts and your sense of humor is off the wall, I really enjoy that. Your Illuminati posts are often right on the mark and always are food for thought. You are absolutely unique here and irreplaceable. Please don't leave.
i saw it tonite, and was scared out of my wits, giggling and enjoying spotting the horrendous number of continuity gaffes (i am convinced they are deliberate!).
the cat fight with the gypsy is a classic - she is trying to put a curse on the girl.
during the fight her false teeth fall out, and she attacks her throat with her gums!!
I loved it too. We didn't stop laughing all the way through the movie. It did make me jump, which made my daughters laugh even harder.
Mrs Ganoush was totally and hilariously disgusting.
